What Are Pharmacological Therapies In Heart Failure?
Pharmacological therapies are done mainly in step wise fashion as;
- Removal of retained salt & water from the body by Diuretics
- Reduction of afterload as well as salt & water by ACE inhibitors
- Reduction of excessive sympathetic stimulation by β-blockers
- Reduction of preload & afterload by Vasodilators
- Direct augmentation of depressed cardiac contractility with positive inotropic drugs such as Cardiac glycosides
What Are Non-Pharmacological Therapies In Heart Failure?
Non-pharmacological therapies include mainly;
- Removal of nonfunctional regions of damaged myocardium by Surgical procedures
- Re-synchronization of right & left ventricular contractions by Artificial Pacemaker ( in patients with conduction abnormalities)
- Coronary Revascularization in coronary artery disease & heart failure
